CONTROL

Controlling is to verify or regulate performance and results with established standards and objectives. The ultimate purpose of controlling is to produce a quality product or service.
Ensures that planning and organizing function effectively.

CONTROLLING PROCESS

Establishing measurable standard: weigh reducing program e.g. 2 pounds per week.
Measuring performance & accomplishment: comparing ideal & actual( real) sitiuation.
Revising& correcting: determine discrepancies possible reasons: inadequate human performance, unsafe facilites, inappropriate programming etc. Then revise & correct.

PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE CONTROL

Tailor controls to specific circumtances
Use both subjective and objevtive means of evaluation

DIRECT & INDIRECT CONTROLS

· Direct control attempts to eliminate errors of judgment made by incompetent leaders through developing or hiring new leaders who will skilfully apply proven concepts, principles and techniques from the outset.

· Formal education, extensive on the job experince, disciplined self study are the most common means for learning to make.

· Indirect contol relies on tracing the cause of unacceptable results back to the managers or supervisors who caused them and getting them to correct their practices.

· Budget process, internal audits, statistical data analysis, and personel observations are the most common techniques.

SUPERVISION

Supervision represents a measure of control and respponsibilty on the part of the supervisor for ongoing action.
Supervision is an administration skill concerned with overseeing, guiding, and directing others as they pursue the unit or goals.
Appropriate supervision is a delicate balancing act. The amount of supervision needed depends upon the situation. It is critical to know when an intervention is necessary and when it is better leave the employee alone.
