Murat Murat Köksalan is a visiting professor at the McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University and the President of the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making. He has been with the Industrial Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University from 1979 to 2018, where he served as the chairperson from 2013 to 2017. He holds a Ph. D. degree from the Industrial Engineering Department of the State University of New York at Buffalo where he also worked as a visiting assistant professor during 1983-'84 academic year. He spent the 1990-'91 academic year, January 1995 to July 1996, and August 2000 to August 2002 as a visiting professor at the Krannert School of Management, Purdue University. He was a visiting professor at the Helsinki University of Technology during the summer of 2006 and frequently visited the Helsinki School of Economics to teach in the International MBA Program and to give talks. He spent September 2009 to June 2011 as a visiting professor at the Aalto University. He served as an editorial board member for the Transactions of Operational Research/Yöneylem Araştırması Dergisi 1993-2004 and has been on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Information Theory and Decision Making and EURO Journal on Decision Processes. He has served as a member of the International Executive Committee and the chairman of the Awards Committee of the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making. His research interests include multiple criteria decision making, production management applications, simulation, and modern heuristic techniques. He was the chairman of the 15th International Conference on Multiple Criteria Decision Making which took place in Ankara, Turkey July 10-14, 2000.


The MCDM Gold Medal, the highest honor given by the International Society on MCDM; The Science Award of the Parlar Foundation, the young investigator award of the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council; the first prizes in the INFORMS case competitions in 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2012, and several teaching awards are among his achievements.
