    Wednesday @ 09:40-13:30

COURSE OBJECTIVE

This course aims to provide detailed information about “tall building” with its general concepts. Basic planning and design considerations of tall buildings are mentioned. Information about lateral loads; wind and earthquake effects on tall buildings are provided. Fundamentals of aerodynamic modifications on tall buildings are presented. Steel, reinforced concrete and composite tall buildings are evaluated. A comprehensive perspective in tall building structural systems are developed. The role of the architect in tall building design is recognized.

COURSE CONTENT

Definition, emergence and historical background of tall buildings. Steel, reinforced concrete and composite tall buildings. Planning and design considerations. Lateral loads; wind and earthquake effects. Aerodynamic modifications against wind loads. Structural systems of tall buildings: rigid frame systems, braced frame and shear walled frame systems, outriggered frame systems, framed-tube systems, braced-tube systems and bundled tube systems. Tall building case studies.
