We will lose class time due to the week long holiday, but you can use this to your
advantage by studying and catching up with the class. Please take advantage of
the free time during the holiday to finish up your review of probability,
including convergence and laws of large numbers. Note that HW2 has been posted
below.

Applications, by Robert G. Gallager
You can download
the draft version of the book from the Prof. Gallager’s web page at MIT. The
book may also be purchased online.
We will be studying Chapters 1,2,3,4,6 and parts of 9. In this excerpt from the book, which includes
the preface and the Table of Contents, the names of the sections we will study have been highlighted. Some
sentences from the preface of the book, which
you are highly recommended to read, have also been highlighted.
