Selim Tirci Tarcan, whos tudied at Galatsaray High Scholl opened Beden Terbiyesi Mektebi in 1908 but it closed 1909

In 1923, in order educate Physical Education Specialists, 4 different institutions opened:
1. courses
2. intitutions
3. academics
4. universities
In 1924, with low of “Orta Tedrisat :Muallimleri”, arts, music and physical education teachers could be educated at institutions of higher education

In 1926 new facilities were attached to “Istanbul Çapa Kiz Ögretmen Okulu” and opened “ Terbiye Bedeniye Muallimligi Kursu” but it lasted 1 year.

In 1933 Selim Sirri Tarcan was guidance counseler to open Physical Education
Department at Gazi called Erkek Muallim Mektebi ve Terbiye Enstitüsü. For the first time, in 1936 female students could attend this department.

In 1947 its name was changed as Gazi Egitim Enstitüsü.

In 1978 was changed again as Yüksek Ögretmen Okulu Beden Egitimi Bölümü

During 1974- 1975 education year, Sports Academies was opened but students graduated from Sports Academies could not be a teasher so in 1982 Physical Education Departments was connected to Education Faculties then sport academies was closed.

Before YÖK, firtsly Physical Education and Sport Higher education was opened at Ege University during 1977 – 1978 education year. It was also the first university for Graduate programs for PES.

Then in 1979 at METU, Physical Education Sport and Recreation department was opened then this department was connected to Education Faculty.
