Dr Margaret J-M Sonmez (MA Oxford University,  PhD Durham University)

I have been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Language Education since 1993.  I teach a variety of courses in the fields of Linguistics and English Literature, and also give elective courses in The History of the Language and The History of Ideas. My current research focuses on how language is and has been used and perceived, the re/presentation of foreign voices, people, places and things in British literature, and especially these matters in the works of Defoe, Dickens and Conrad.
