In this course students read three classic English novels and their progress and understanding is followed by classroom discussion, regular quizzes, a mid-term exam and a final exam.  Class lectures introduce different ways of analyzing novels and in the mid-term and final exams the students write essays analyzing the novels, referring to and using  the issues and techniques discussed in class and supported by their own readings of the novels.  Students are required to read the assigned parts of the novels before each class, and there the quiz each week checks that the reading has been done. In order to enjoy, as well as understand, the novels students are recommended to read them fast and early, and then return to the assigned chapters for closer readings before class each week.
