Materials: The course book, my An Introduction to the History of Western Ideas is available to all registered students through METU On-line. Please use the library and internet sources as much as possible to supplement our classes and the course book. Especially recommended are the internet Stanford University Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and the books Bertrand Russell History of Western Philosophy and Bronowski and Mazlish The Western Intellectual Tradition from Leonardo to Hegel. The mid-terms will require you to research topics not dealt with in class (Kant and Hegel) and to write under exam conditions about what you have found. Grading: Midterms 30% Final 40%
