Modifications to the ‘Manual for Wedge Shear Testing of Soils’, June 1999

On page viii, the 2nd paragraph from the end has been replaced by the following.

Since the preparation of the first version of the manual in July 1998, three related papers have been published in the Electronic Journal of Geotechnical Engineering (freely accessible at http://geotech.civen.okstate.edu/ejge/), open to the criticisms and other contributions of the reader. The manual has been revised to include these and another recent reference as well as a number of minor corrections.

On page 1, last sentence in para. 3 has been modified as follows.

Nevertheless this is the more rigorous approach, and notable advances have been made in this field in recent decades (see, e.g., Fredlund & Rahardjo (1993), Khalili & Khabbaz (1998)).

On page 6, last para., second sentence was modified as follows.

Further comparisons between priswests on < 38 mm gravel and crushed rock and triaxial tests on 191-mm dia. specimens have recently been published by Tosun et al. (1999).

On page 7, first para., the beginning of the sentence strarting in line 4 was modified as follows.

Forcing regression though the origin for comparison, the ratio fpw / ftr of the angle of friction fpw measured in priswests to the corresponding value ....

On page 7, para. 2, line 7 was modified as follows.

yielding with sufficient accuracy for practical purposes (Mirata et al., 1999), both the c and f values ....

On page 8, section 1.2.7, line 6 was modified as follows.

samples to be tested, may be used for a similar purpose (e.g., Mirata et al., 1999), using test moulds larger in size than those described here if need be.

On page, 72, last line was modified as follows.

frame (see, Mirata et al. (1998), Fig. 3).

On page 111, the end of line 3 was modified as follows.

50o (Mirata et al., 1998).

On page 162, Fredlund, D.G. & Rohardjo, H. was corrected as:

Fredlund, D.G. & Rahardjo, H.

On page 162, ‘Çolakoðlu, S.N. (1996)...’ was removed from the list of references, and the following added.

On page 163, the following were added to the list of references.
