COURSE OBJECTIVE

ARCH 331 is the introductory course of the structural design in Architecture. The course addresses basic cross relation between architectural design and preliminary structural design. The objective is to familiarize the students with general analysis and design concepts of structural elements like beams, columns, slab systems, etc. The student gain basic knowledge about fundamentals of reinforced concrete theory and understand behavior of steel members. This way the students comprehend alternative tools to be used in structural design in architecture and their limits.

COURSE CONTENT

- General principles of reinforced concrete

- Analysis and design of reinforced concrete beams

- Behavior and preliminary design of axially loaded reinforced concrete members

- Reinforced concrete slab systems

- Introductory theory of Steel structures

- General principles of large-span buildings
